Leaders of Learning

A District on the move

InnovateEd recognizes that leading systemic improvement requires a framework that equips leaders at all levels to navigate a coherent path of improvement. The vision for the Network of Districts on the Move is to unite and guide school districts committed to developing cultures, building capacity and creating coherent systems.

District Leaders

Set a few goals and outcomes that guide school improvement efforts for the equitable improvement of student learning outcomes. District-wide systems of support develop the collective expertise of principals and teachers within and among all school sites.

School Leaders

Create a school-wide focus with clearly delineated improvement strategies for developing schoolwide instructional capacity. A culture of shared leadership and systemic collaboration drives the continuous improvement of practices and student learning results.

Teacher Leaders

Define the gaps in student academic skills and behaviors so that learning progressions gradually release students to successfully complete rigorous and complex tasks. Robust collaborative inquiry cycles develops the precision of pedagogy to accelerate learning for all students.

District Engagement

The Network of Districts on the Move was established in 2014 by InnovateEd to serve as a comprehensive strategy for building school district capacity at the regional, state and national levels. Beginning in 2015, Michael Fullan and Joanne Quinn came to serve as lead advisors of the network and continue to provide guidance on leading systemic improvement. As of 2019, the collective efforts of district leaders, principals and teachers have guided 700+ schools serving almost 1,000,000 students in the journey of creating coherent systems of continuous improvement. School districts participate in the Leadership Summit at the beginning of the school year, receive customized coaching and support throughout the school year, and convene at the year-end Learning Fair to share best practices and receive recognition for systemic improvement efforts. The Benchmarks of Capacity serve as a roadmap for Districts on the Move to develop cultures, build capacity and create coherent systems.
